Goodnight Desdemona is a wild and fantastical farce that includes cross-dressing (by both genders), swordplay, mistaken identities, and a wise Fool. Constance Ledbelly, an assistant professor at Queens University in Canada, is trying desperately to finish her doctoral dissertation, in which she claims that both Othello and Romeo and Juliet were originally comedies which Shakespeare re-wrote as tragedies. In her quest to decipher the Gustav Manuscript, the key to proving her thesis, Connie is magically sucked into the worlds of Shakespeare's plays and manages to save Desdemona from Iago's machinations and Romeo and Juliet from their tragic deaths. But this, she finds, is only the beginning of her adventure.
